Dubai Culture to host workshop on ‘Photography of Performing Arts’ from Sept. 28

Dubai, UAE; September 27, 2011: The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, is hosting an extensive workshop on the ‘Photography of Performing Arts,’ from September 28 to October 12, 2011.

The specialist workshop is aimed at encouraging participants to strengthen their skills in the art of photography of performing arts, and mastering moving imagery, under the instruction of artists Jassim Al Awadi and Said Shamis.

The participants will undergo hands-on training over the course of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre, to be held from Oct. 1 to 12, where they will have the opportunity to photograph the various plays and learn the nuances of live performing arts photography.

Khalil Abdulwahid, Manager of Visual Arts, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “The photography workshop has been designed to provide participants with invaluable insights on the photography of performing arts. With a fast expanding theatre scene in the region, the workshop will give aspiring photographers the opportunity to document and create powerful visual archives that will be referral points on Arab theatre trends in the future. It will also open new career opportunities for the participants and further contribute to the cultural realm of Dubai.”

Over the course of the workshop, participants will gain knowledge on the definition and use of camera equipment, selecting appropriate camera angles, the technicalities of blending classic snapshots, and other amendments. These insights will be coupled with instructions to capturing an ideal photograph that reflects the intensity of the performance by understanding the finer aspects of theatre.

The fifth edition of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre focuses on promoting Emirati and Arab theatre artists by providing a dedicated platform to showcase their talent in addition to sharpening their skills through critique sessions led by experts.
