Dubai, UAE; November 3, 2011: The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, has announced its patronage of the city’s flagship fashion event, the Dubai Fashion Week.
Underscoring its mandate to nurture and promote the city’s various artforms, Dubai Culture is extending its support to the Dubai Fashion Week in line with the city’s evolution as a fashion hub and to promote talented local designers.
Apart from extending its patronage, Dubai Culture placed special emphasis on the New Generation Collection, unveiled on Oct. 24, which showcases the works of five emerging designers based in Dubai. The event reiterated Dubai Culture’s commitment to showcase the creative talents of participating local designers to an international audience.
Acting Director General of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Saeed Al Nabouda, said: "The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority works towards strengthening the cultural infrastructure of Dubai with a focus on promoting Emirati talent. The fashion industry is one of the core sectors where talented Emirati nationals have made significant strides, led by their creativity and innovative approach to design.”
“Through our patronage for Dubai Fashion Week, a key event that brings global attention on Dubai and its designers, we look forward to nurturing a new generation of Emirati designers who will further contribute to the evolution of Dubai’s fashion and design scene, and in doing so, reinforce Dubai's international positioning as the emerging fashion capital," he added.
Manoj Bhojwani, the Chairman of Capital Marketing Group, the organisers of Dubai Fashion Week, said: "This is a great honour to be bestowed on our event and on the wider fashion industry by Dubai Culture. We are proud to have the prestigious association of the Authority as we continue our vision to establish Dubai Fashion Week as the most significant fashion industry event in the Middle East."
Under the direction of new Creative Director, Simon P Lock, Dubai Fashion Week also unveiled a number of other initiatives for the first time this season, such as redesigned event spaces including a state of the art catwalk, and an international events team to help enhance the local industry, while raising the profile of the event to a global audience.
